Pastor Larry C. Weston

Faith, Family, and Friends is the priority order Pastor Weston gives when defining who he is and what is important to him. Coming from a lineage of Baptist pastors—his grandfather, Rev. Isaac Brockington Weston and his father, Rev. Benjamin Franklin Weston, and being reared in a Christian home by the Rev. B.F. and Janie Vaughn Weston, faith definitely became a captivating force in Pastor Weston’s life.  His early life and that of his sister, Dr. Lois Weston Green, have been rooted in faith as they grew up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Faith is the guiding principal that Rev. Larry Carlton Weston embraces. The faith that undergirds him is what he raised his daughter, Raquel by and what he uses to contribute to the rearing of his grandson, Christian. Faith is the stronghold that Rev. Weston is bound by when he teaches and preaches God’s Word. As a Bible-based Man-of-God, and man of faith. Pastor Weston began hearing the beckoning call of God to the ministry as a young child, but he was thirty-two years old when he heeded his call to the preaching ministry.

Pastor Weston’s rich relationship with God has been a sustaining source for his 33 years as a pastor-- the first 3 years as Pastor of Greenview First Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina, and the last 30 years as Pastor of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Sumter, where he has led the TMBC flock since 1989. Prior to become a fulltime pastor, Pastor Weston served as the Assistant Pastor of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor L. W. Walker from January 1984 to December 1985.  His call as an undershepherd at both Greenview and Trinity has been vision laced. The visions God gave him for His people has enhanced the building programs at both churches, but most importantly have enhanced the lives of people and drawn many to Christ through the spreading of the Gospel and his placid, pastoral lifestyle.

Both biologically and spiritually speaking, family is a significant focus for Pastor Weston. His heart carries a burden for the nurturing and salvation of people. His humanitarianism has caused him to serve on many leadership boards and to be recognized for his philanthropic deeds. Among these accolades, though not all-inclusive, are he was the first African American to sit on the University of South Carolina Board of Trustees and the Tuomey Healthcare Center Medical Board.  He was also the first African American to serve as Assistant Solicitor for the Third Judicial Court of the Circuit Courts of the State of South Carolina.

Pastor Weston is well-schooled having earned his bachelor and juris doctorate degrees from South Carolina State University (Orangeburg, South Carolina) and the University of South Carolina (Columbia, South Carolina) respectively. He is also well-learned in theology. In addition to divine inspirations and revelations from God, he has gained theocratic knowledge through studies at Morris College School of Religion and from the completion of a master’s degree course of study in Theology at Covington Theological Seminary. The same fortitude he affords himself with Biblical study, he brings to his congregation by providing opportunities for them to attend the Progressive National Baptist Conventions, the South Carolina Baptist E & M, Convention Congresses, the Sumter, M & E Congresses, as well as multiple in-church study opportunities to include Bible studies, workshops, conferences, church training, etc.

Not only has Pastor Weston been a builder of buildings and souls, but he has been successful in building and growing kingdom ministries to include expansions of choirs, help ministries, and women in the pulpit, and on the Deacon and Trustee Ministries.

In 2001, God favored Pastor Weston and TMBC with 21.5 acres of land, on Wall Street. He blessed the pastor and church with the construction of a 52,5000 square feet multipurpose center that was completed in 2009. Ten years after the 155 Wall Street relocation of Trinity, Pastor Weston’s God-fed visions continues to evolve, as he focuses on building a health and wellness center for the church and community.

Trinity’s Statement of Mission and Purpose: “The Trinity Missionary Baptist Church is a Bible-based body of baptized believers. Our mission is to worship and glorify God, edify one another, minister to the needs of our community, and win the lost all under the anointing of the Holy Spirit,” will help further define Pastor Larry Carlton Weston. He can also be defined in the scripture from Jeremiah 29: 11: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end;” and Jeremiah 3: 15: And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.”  Pastor Weston could be defined as a Jeremiah Pastor who laments for the people.

This biographical glimpse into the humble, compassionate, but passionate Man-of-God, who often proclaims the scripture: “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint,” details a man, like David,  after God’s own heart who is willing to “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine….” (2 Timothy 4:2)
